But why?

Start with why, we are told. And we’ve always struggled with that. Every time we hear somebody articulate their why, they are always so passionate, so thoughtful, so altruistic. Driven by a desire to change the world, to save a species, to make something better for humanity.

We don’t have that. (Not that we don’t want the world to be better or want to cause mass extinction; it’s just that we aren’t driven by that.) We take photos. We make videos. We like taking photos and making videos, but we refuse to be another cookie cutter photographer (or any other creative) banging on about how passionate they are about their art / job / hobby. That’s too vacuous even for us…

So we sort of gave up on the idea of why. And so it has been for a few years.

Anyway, for some reason, we revisited this and didn’t worry about trying to come up with something meaningful. And now we realise we’re not driven by sainthood, or even something vaguely extrinsic, and have embraced our introversion, we have figured out (or stopped denying) our actual why.

We like problem solving. We love problem solving. It’s not exciting (for you). It’s not sexy (for anyone). It’s not going to change the world. But it’s why we do what we do. And maybe what drives you will change the world, and we can bring our why and our skill to make your why work for good.

What do we mean by problem solving? Everything and anything. From creating a shoot plan or storyboard to best communicate a client’s message or brand. Setting up lights to create the look we have in our minds. Working out how to get the shot despite having bad (and no control over the) lighting. Figuring out how to get a creative and interesting shot of yet another person on the same stage. How to deliver amazing footage on a smaller budget.

These are all problems we have to solve every day. Think, plan, test, tweak, execute, repeat. And we love that. The fulfilment of seeing the final outcome as we planned it, managing the hiccups on the way and still getting the shot. That is what drives us to do our best work.

So we’ll leave the world saving to you. And when your why needs a creative output, our why will help you achieve yours.
