Can you burn water?

We have lovely Le Creuset pans here at Melon Towers. Expensive, high quality cookware for a lifetime’s use in the kitchen. And yet… To call us a mediocre cook would be kind. Can’t (really) cook, won’t cook (if we can possibly avoid it).

What does that have to do with photography? Well, just because you have an expensive ‘professional’ camera does not mean that you can take ‘professional’ photos. I have the pans; I can’t cook well. I have the drill; I can’t do DIY - let alone build something - for toffee. It’s probably the same in every industry, but the saying ‘all the gear and no idea’ definitely rings true.

Like cooking, like carpentry, like any craft, photography is a skill. Something that has to be learned. Despite what the phone manufacturers tell us - and don’t get us wrong, the technology and quality of images from modern phones is incredible - there’s more to a great photo that pointing and shooting.

Lighting. Composition. Posing. Focus point. Depth of field. All of these decisions affect the shot and require some thought. And that can’t be left to the machine.

So, as with a fine meal prepared by a proper chef or a beautiful cabinet built by a master craftsmen, the question isn’t '“what tool did you use to make that?” It’s “how much time did you spend learning your skill to make that?”

And that’s why it’s about the photographer and not the camera. See how we can help elevate your imagery from snaps to “wow”!
