Yes, we’ve been up the Old Bailey…
Fear not. We have not been in front of the beak for nefarious reasons. We have, in fact, been working literally opposite the (descriptive but boringly named) Central Criminal Court of England and Wales (that’s the Old Bailey to you) to shoot an event for finance and compliance professionals.
Our brief was the usual: get amazing photos of the speakers, delegates and sponsors. Which, of course, we did.
Unspoken in the brief was: don’t disrupt the meeting; don’t distract the speakers; don’t add to our stress; be nice to our clients and sponsors; be nice to us; go above and beyond ‘being a photographer’; be flexible when plans and timings change; out our interviewees - who we were videoing - at ease; be professional. And we definitely did all of that too.
Because professional photography isn’t about being paid to take photographs. The professional part is understanding - and delivering - on all the things that are not the photography. From turning up on time, looking the part, being prepared and able to work flexibly in difficult situations, to being professional in interactions with guests and VIPs, and understanding it’s not always about the shot. (As well as being fully insured and having backup equipment and multiple redundancies, should - and touch wood it hasn’t - something happen and it be needed.)
And we had a wonderful time taking great (if we say so ourselves) photos and recording some engaging talking heads and vox pops.
