Guess who’s back, back again…
Yes. The rumours are true… A couple of years since our last excursion (and many years since we took the big role), we are back in BNI. (In Richmond, this time…)
What is BNI, I hear you say. And why should you care? Both perfectly legitimate questions, with very different types of answers.
The answer to the first question is dry and mostly boring. BNI is a networking group. Or, rather, a collection of networking groups. So far, so dull. But, as any business owner knows, networking is essential. And BNI is structured and successful and has been around for years, and works. Yes, it’s not for everyone, and it can seem a little cult like (not that way I do it, mind…), but it is a great way to meet other businesses and get contacts, suppliers and, crucially, clients.
But you don’t need to care about that. What you should care about depends on what you do and what you need.
If you are a business owner in West London (ish), drop me a line and I’ll get you along to meet us and tell us about your business. 2 hours of your time, coffee, chatting, potential to find your next best client. No more than that.
If you aren’t, but you need someone to provide you with goods or a service, then we probably know the right person to talk to. And if I recommend them to you, they have even more incentive to do a great job for you. Because they have to show their face at the next meeting and they will not want to speak to me if they’ve let you - and me - down!
And finally, this deer thing? Hmmm. The member who does the best presentation is awarded this each week, and gets twice the time to present themselves the following week. On the downside, they have to take this home and keep it safe. And it’s been sitting on the filing cabinet next to my desk all week, just being there and looking like that. Is that trade off worth it for the extra time to talk about my business? Also, hmmm. At least I’ll get to hand it to someone else tomorrow…
