Or, why a photo of your delegates might win you plaudits…
Many people don’t like to have their photo taken. This is usually for one of two reasons: the first is a perception issue. Maybe the the image they have of themselves doesn’t match up with what they see in a photograph. Or, more commonly, they fixate on their perceived flaws in a photograph and miss the bigger picture (that they look great!); the second reason is the self-fulfilling prophecy - they see a camera, lean away and pull a face. And the resulting picture will look awful.
Here’s the thing. The second one is easily fixed and the first can be fixed by (the positive kind of) peer pressure. If your friends (or anybody whose opinion you trust) tell you that you look amazing in a photograph, you’ll start to believe it. And you’ll feel good…
So what does this have to do with event photography? Where are we going with this? Delegates and live feedback is where we are going…
If you run corporate events, those where you invite your customers or clients to learn and network, we assume you conduct a post-meeting survey. Did they like the meeting? The content? The topics? And the feedback from this probably affects your future events, and maybe even your budget. In short, it’s important to get the event right and get honest and positive feedback.
Here’s where a photograph can help.
There are a couple of caveats. It has to be a good photograph. A really good, flattering photograph. And it needs to be seen. A photograph evokes an emotional reaction; a good photograph evokes a positive reaction. And a positive mood - such as after seeing a good photograph - means a greater probability of receiving positive feedback.
Which is why we recommend, where possible, showing photographs of the event at the event. If you can show positive images of smiling delegates (and presenters) from morning sessions in the afternoon (or of day 1 on day 2), you’ll create a positive buzz. We’ve seen it happen in real time: image slide shows on the main screen; nudges in the side from colleagues, ‘look, it’s you…’; a smile, a laugh, a conversation. And the proof? Requests from the delegate for a copy of the photo.
We offer same day turnaround of a handful of images for this reason. It makes your delegates happier. It makes your feedback better. It’s a win-win. 🍉
